Youth and willingness to give evidence against co-offenders are among the most compelling mitigating circumstances, and where a co-offender benefits from these factors (along with an earlier guilty plea and young offender status), a significantly more lenient sentence for the co-offender does not give rise to a justifiable sense of grievance on the part of the other offender. A co-offender's sentence for more offences does not necessarily establish a parity grievance where the co-offender had substantially greater mitigating factors.
