The parity principle does not require a sentencing judge to impose a sentence on a co-offender that is proportionately lower in direct ratio to the difference in criminality; the question is whether the difference in sentences was reasonably open to the sentencing judge. A sentence that is effectively half that of a co-offender with substantially greater criminality may still be reasonably open where both offenders were important participants in a sophisticated criminal enterprise.
