Admissions to police that are not made as a consequence of genuine remorse, do not involve the provision of useful information, and are made grudgingly only after confrontation with evidence, are not of material weight for sentencing purposes and do not require a sentencing discount. The egregious character of offending and a very serious risk of reoffending reduce the extent to which a young offender can be given credit for youth.
