Mental Health (Secure Facilities) Act 2016

The director-general may make a SMHF direction about conditions for visiting a secure mental health facility.

The direction may include conditions relating to the following:

times and length of visits;

the number of visitors allowed for each patient at a time;

the provision of evidence of a visitor’s identity or status;

the provision of biometric information to verify a visitor’s identity;

procedures in relation to visitors who are accredited people;

procedures in relation to visitors who are children;

circumstances in which visitors may be monitored;

facilities for visitors, including storage for personal property;

prohibited things;

anything else the director-general considers necessary to protect security or good order at the secure mental health facility.

Note The Information Privacy Act 2014 applies to personal information about visitors collected under this section.
