33 Visits by family, friends and others

(1)

This section applies if the director-general has made a decision under section 17 (2) (Limits on contact with others) to restrict contact with a patient.

(2)

The director-general or the person in charge of the facility may require a person (an intending visitor) wanting to visit the patient to make an appointment to do so.

(3)

The director-general or person in charge of the facility may refuse to allow the intending visitor to visit the patient if the director-general believes on reasonable grounds that the refusal is necessary and reasonable to avoid prejudicing the effectiveness of the patient’s treatment, care or support.

(4)

If the person in charge of the facility refuses to allow an intending visitor to visit the patient, the person must, as soon as practicable, give the intending visitor and the director-general written notice of the decision and the reasons for it.
