34 Directions to visitors

(1)

The director-general may, orally or in writing, give a direction to a visitor at a secure mental health facility to do, or not do, something if the director-general believes on reasonable grounds that the direction is necessary and reasonable—

(a)

to ensure compliance with the visiting conditions; or

(b)

for the safety of other patients or staff at the facility.

(2)

A direction under subsection (1) may include a direction to—

(a)

not enter the facility; or

(b)

leave the facility.

(3)

If a direction is given in relation to a visitor who is a child, the director-general must tell the child’s parent or someone else with parental responsibility for the child about the direction and the reasons for it.

(4)

The director-general must keep a record of each direction given under this section.
