Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998

The Council consists of the following members:

the CEO;

2 radiation control officers;

a person to represent the interests of the general public;

a person nominated by the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory;

up to 8 other members.

Each member, other than the CEO, is to be appointed by the Minister by written instrument.

Before appointing a member, the Minister must consult the CEO in relation to the appointment.

Before appointing a member, the Minister must consult such consumer groups and such environmental groups as the Minister considers appropriate.

The Minister must not appoint a person as a member unless the Minister is satisfied that the person has expertise relevant to, or knowledge of, radiation protection or nuclear safety.

The Minister must appoint a member to be the Chair of the Council.

Each member, including the Chair, holds office on a part‑time basis.
