27 Membership of the Nuclear Safety Committee
The Nuclear Safety Committee consists of the following members:
the CEO;
a person to represent the interests of the general public;
a representative of the Radiation Health Committee;
a person to represent the local government or the local administration of an area affected by a matter related to the safety of a controlled facility;
up to 8 other members.
Each member, other than the CEO, is to be appointed by the CEO by written instrument.
Before appointing a member, the CEO must consult the Council in relation to the appointment.
Before appointing a member, the CEO must consult such consumer groups and such environmental groups as the CEO considers appropriate.
The CEO must not appoint a person as a member unless the CEO is satisfied that the person has expertise in, or knowledge of:
nuclear safety; or
other industrial or safety‑related regulation; or
a related area.
The CEO must appoint a member to be the Chair of the Committee.
Each member, including the Chair, holds office on a part‑time basis.
