The Minister shall appoint such number of persons to be the Chairpersons of Medicare Participation Review Committees as the Minister thinks necessary.
A Chairperson may be appointed on a full‑time or a part‑time basis.
The Minister shall not appoint a person as a Chairperson unless that person is a legal practitioner and has been a legal practitioner for not less than 5 years.
Subject to this section, a Chairperson holds office for such period, not exceeding 5 years, as is specified in the instrument of appointment, but is eligible for re‑appointment.
A Chairperson may resign from office by writing signed by the Chairperson and delivered to the Minister.
The Minister may terminate the appointment of a Chairperson because of misbehaviour or physical or mental incapacity.
