11 Constitution of the Council

(1)

The Council is to consist of the following members:

(a)

the Principal;

(b)

the Chairperson of the Academic Board of the College;

(c)

up to 6 other members.

(2)

The Minister may appoint in writing the members referred to in paragraph (1)(c).

(3)

In making an appointment under subsection (2), the Minister must have regard to the advice of the Council.

(4)

In appointing members to the Council under paragraph (1)(c), the Minister must try to ensure that there is a balance of skills and expertise among members of the Council, in particular financial and commercial skills.

(5)

The Minister must not appoint to the Council:

(a)

a current member of:

(i)

the Commonwealth Parliament; or

(ii)

a State Parliament; or

(iii)

the legislature of a Territory; or

(b)

a member of the academic or general staff of the College; or

(c)

a student of the College.

(6)

If a person other than the Principal is for the time being performing the duties of the office of Principal, that person may attend meetings of the Council and, for the purposes of those meetings, is taken to be a member.
