Each director of the Authority is to be appointed by the Minister by written instrument.
The director of the Authority is eligible for reappointment: see the Acts Interpretation Act 1901.
A person is not eligible for appointment as a director of the Authority unless the Minister is satisfied that the person is suitably qualified for appointment because of expertise in one or more of the following fields:
grape growing;
winemaking;
marketing;
finance;
business management and administration;
government policy processes and public administration;
strategic management;
administration of research and development;
technology;
law;
human resource management;
communications.
A person is not eligible for appointment as a director of the Authority if the person is a member of the executive of a representative organisation.
The directors of the Authority (other than the Chair) are to be appointed from persons:
nominated by the Authority Selection Committee in accordance with section 27G; or
included on a list, given to the Minister under subparagraph 27G(1)(b)(ii), of persons the Authority Selection Committee considers suitable for nomination.
Before appointing the Chair of the Authority, the Minister must consult:
if there are already one or more directors of the Authority (other than the Chair)—those directors; and
in any case—each representative organisation.
In appointing directors of the Authority, the Minister must have regard to whether the directors of the Authority will collectively possess:
an appropriate balance of expertise in as many as possible of the fields referred to in subsection (2); and
experience in board affairs; and
appropriate diversity.
A director of the Authority holds office on a part‑time basis.
