Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002

An authorisation may authorise the exercise of the special powers conferred by this Division in a public place—

for the purpose of preventing or controlling a public disorder in a particular area described in the authorisation, or

for the purpose of preventing persons travelling by a road specified in the authorisation to an area to create or participate in a public disorder (whether or not the area is also subject to an authorisation under paragraph (a)).

The area or road is referred to in this Division as the target of the authorisation.
