253 Adjustment of donation cap
The amount of the donation cap for a registered political party or candidate in an election is adjusted on 1 July each year to the greater of the following amounts—
the amount worked out under subsection (2) rounded up to the nearest dollar;
the amount of the donation cap immediately before it is adjusted under this section.
The amount is worked out using the following formula—where—A means the amount of the donation cap immediately before it is adjusted under this section.B means the CPI number published for the last quarter for which such a number was published before the end of the previous financial year.C means the CPI number published for the last quarter for which such a number was published before the end of the financial year immediately before the previous financial year.
The commission must publish the amount of the donation cap for a registered political party or candidate in an election on its website before the start of each financial year.
In this section—quarter means the following periods in a year—
1 January to 31 March;
1 April to 30 June;
1 July to 30 September;
1 October to 31 December.
