Relationships Act 2003

The Registrar must not make a decision regarding registration of a deed of relationship until after the expiry of 28 days from the receipt of the application.

Prior to making a decision, the Registrar may require the person or persons who signed the application to provide further particulars as the Registrar requires.

Unless the application is withdrawn, at the expiration of 28 days following lodgment or following the provision of additional information if requested by the Registrar under subsection (2), the Registrar must within a reasonable time – register the deed of relationship by making an entry in the Register; or refuse to register the deed of relationship.

The Registrar must not register the deed of relationship if either of the persons is married or a party to a deed of relationship.
