160 Security of information in registers
In this regulation – DVS has the same meaning as in the Identity Verification Services Act 2023 of the Commonwealth; Identity Matching Services has the same meaning as in the intergovernmental agreement within the meaning of the Identity Verification Services Act 2023 of the Commonwealth; NEVDIS means the scheme established by New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania to provide a national exchange of vehicle and driver information and known as the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System; protected information means information recorded in a register that is – personal information; or commercially sensitive information.
The Registrar may divulge protected information only in one or more of the following circumstances:if and as the Registrar considers appropriate in the public interest for the purposes of the administration of an Act of this State, another State or a Territory, or the Commonwealth; if and as authorised by the person to whom the information relates; if and as required by a court or other body or person authorised to take evidence; if and as required for the purposes of NEVDIS; if and as required for the purposes of Identity Matching Services, including a DVS, in connection with the exercise of the Registrar’s driver licensing functions.
