Installation of fire hydrants
56ZE Installation of fire hydrants
A regulated entity must install fire hydrants at such convenient distances, and at such places, as are necessary for the ready supply of water to control and extinguish fires.
Subsection (1) does not apply – so as to require fire hydrants to be installed on any water pipe that is less than 100 millimetres in diameter; or so as to require fire hydrants to be installed if the supply of water through the regulated entity's water infrastructure system is not sufficient for the operation of fire hydrants.
A regulated entity may remove any fire hydrant referred to in subsection (1) if, after consultation with the Chief Officer, within the meaning of the Fire Service Act 1979, it is satisfied on reasonable grounds that the fire hydrant is no longer needed.
