The Minister must appoint one of the members of the Board to be Deputy Chairperson of the Board.
The Deputy Chairperson holds office as Deputy Chairperson for his or her period of appointment as a member or until he or she resigns as Deputy Chairperson.

A person who is re-appointed as a member of the Board is eligible to be re-appointed as Deputy Chairperson by the Minister.
S. 53(4) repealed by No. 11/2023 s. 66(3).

In the absence or inability to act of the Chairperson the Deputy Chairperson may exercise all the powers and must carry out all the duties of the Chairperson.
