22 Jurisdiction of coroner to hold inquest into death
A coroner who has jurisdiction to investigate a death must hold an inquest if the death appears to be a Western Australian death and —
the deceased was immediately before death a person held in care; or
it appears that the death was caused, or contributed to, by any action of a member of the Police Force; or
it appears that the death was caused, or contributed to, while the deceased was a person held in care; or
the Attorney General so directs; or
the State Coroner so directs; or
the death occurred in prescribed circumstances.
A coroner who has jurisdiction to investigate a death may hold an inquest if the coroner believes it is desirable.
