Electoral Act 1992

A redistribution committee must—

exhibit a map or maps showing the name and boundaries of each proposed electorate at the electoral commission’s office; and

make a copy of the following available for public inspection:

the suggestions and comments given to the committee in accordance with the notice under section 41 (Suggestions and comments about redistribution); and

a description (whether by reference to a map or plan or otherwise) of the boundaries of each proposed electorate; and

a statement of the number of members of the Legislative Assembly that it proposes should be elected from each proposed electorate; and

its statement of reasons for the proposed redistribution; and

if a member of the committee has provided a written statement or reasons for any disagreement with the proposal—that statement; and

prepare a written notice—

telling the public about the exhibition mentioned in paragraph (a) and the availability for public inspection at the electoral commission’s office of the copies of the documents mentioned in paragraph (b); and

stating that written objections against the proposal may be given to the electoral commission within 28 days after the day the notice is notified under the Legislation Act 2001.

The notice is a notifiable instrument.

The redistribution committee must give additional public notice of—

the maps mentioned in subsection (1) (a); and

the notice mentioned in subsection (1) (c).

Note Public notice means notice on an ACT government website or in a daily newspaper circulating in the ACT (see Legislation Act, dict, pt 1). The requirement in s (3) is in addition to the requirement for notification on the legislation register as a notifiable instrument.
