Refusal, amendment, suspension or cancellation of local registration—failure to show cause
33 Refusal, amendment, suspension or cancellation of local registration—failure to show cause
The Society may refuse to grant or renew, or may amend, suspend or cancel, local registration if the applicant for registration or the locally registered foreign lawyer—
is required by clause 31 or 32 to provide a written statement relating to a matter and has failed to provide a written statement in accordance with that requirement; or
has provided a written statement in accordance with clause 31 or 32 but the Society does not consider that the applicant or foreign lawyer has shown in the statement that, despite the show cause event concerned, they are a fit and proper person to be a locally registered foreign lawyer.
For the purposes of this clause only, a written statement accepted by the Society under clause 32(3) is taken to have been provided in accordance with clause 32.
If the Society makes a determination under this clause, the Society must, as soon as practicable, give the applicant or lawyer an information notice.
