Approval by Commissioner
80D Approval by Commissioner
A person may apply to the Commissioner for approval of a change of name application.
The application must be made in a manner approved by the Commissioner.
The Commissioner may approve a change of name application only if the Commissioner is satisfied that the change of name is in all the circumstances necessary or reasonable.
The Commissioner must not approve a change of name application if the Commissioner is satisfied that the change of name would, if registered, be reasonably likely —
to be regarded as offensive by a victim of crime or a significant sector of the community; or
to frustrate the administration of this Act in respect of the reportable offender who is the subject of the change of name application.
If the Commissioner approves a change of name application, the Commissioner must —
as soon as is practicable, give written notice of the approval to the person who made the application under subsection (1); and
give a copy of the written notice of approval to the WA Registrar or the interstate Registrar, as the case requires.
