Firewood

In force

(1)

A person may collect firewood from the immediate vicinity of a camping area if —

(a)

there is a sign erected authorising the collection of firewood; and

(b)

the firewood is intended for use on a campfire or barbecue in the area.

(2)

Nothing in subregulation (1) is to be taken as authorising any person to fell, cut, injure or destroy any tree, shrub or bush.

(2a)

If —

(a)

a person collects firewood from the immediate vicinity of a camping area on CALM land; and

(b)

the firewood is intended for use on a campfire or barbecue in the area; and

(c)

there are no signs authorising the collection of firewood; and

(d)

the person is not otherwise authorised to collect the firewood,

the person commits an offence.

Penalty: a fine of $1 000.

(3)

Part 15 of the Forest Management Regulations 1993 applies to the collection of firewood in public firewood areas.

(4)

In this regulation —

firewood means dead wood lying on the ground.
