Procedure after close of nominations
231 Procedure after close of nominations
If, at the close of nominations, the number of candidates is equal to the number of vacancies to be filled at the election, the candidate is, or candidates are, elected unopposed.
If, at the close of nominations, the number of candidates is less than the number of offices to be filled at the election —
the candidate is, or candidates are, elected; and
the unfilled vacancies are to be taken to be casual vacancies occurring on the day after the close of nominations.
If, at the close of nominations, the number of candidates is greater than the number of vacancies, an election is to be held.
The returning officer must, within 7 days after a candidate is elected under subregulation (1) or (2)(a), notify the Treasurer of the election.
The Treasurer is to cause notice of the election of a candidate to be published in the Gazette.
