Firearms Act 1996

The Commissioner, in writing, may authorise a person appointed to undertake duties under the Nature Conservation Act 2002 or the National Parks and Reserves Management Act 2002 to perform or exercise the functions and powers of a police officer under this Act.

An authorisation may be made either generally or as provided by the instrument of authorisation.

A function or power performed or exercised by a person authorised under subsection (1) has the same effect as if performed or exercised by a police officer.

The Commissioner may revoke an authorisation wholly or partly.

This Act applies in respect of a person performing or exercising a function or power in accordance with an authorisation given under subsection (1) as if that person were a police officer performing or exercising the function or power.
