18 Reviewable deaths may be referred to the Institute
S. 18(1) amended by No. 34/2024 s. 47.
The State Coroner may refer a reviewable death to the Institute, whether or not the death is a reportable death, to enable the Institute to perform its functions under the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 2024.
If—
the State Coroner refers a reviewable death to the Institute; and
S. 18(2)(b) amended by No. 34/2024 s. 47.
the State Coroner considers that information held by the Coroners Court in relation to the death is necessary to enable the Institute to perform its functions under the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Act 2024—
the principal registrar must ensure that the information is given to the Institute.
