1.17 Corporation a party
Except where otherwise provided by or under any Act or these Rules, a corporation, whether or not a party, must not take any step in a proceeding save by an Australian lawyer.
Paragraph (1) does not apply to the following—
the filing of a complaint;
the giving of a notice of defence;
in a case to which Part 1 of Order 21 applies, obtaining an order by a corporation which is a party or by an employee, authorised in writing, of a corporation which is a party;
a request to issue a warrant to seize property.
If a corporation that is a party to a proceeding in the Court changes its name it must—
file written notice of the change of name in the office of the Court at the proper venue of the Court; and
serve a copy of that notice on all other parties to the proceeding.
The notice must—
bear the title of the proceeding showing the name of the corporation before the change; and
specify the new name of the corporation and the date on which the name was changed.
After a corporation has filed a notice of change of name, the corporation must be given its new name in all documents filed in the proceeding followed by the phrase "(formerly [old name])".
