17 Appointment of authorised person

(1)

The chief executive officer of the Department —

(a)

may appoint such persons to be authorised persons for the purposes of this Act as the chief executive officer considers necessary; and

(b)

must issue each person appointed under paragraph (a) with an identity card, in the prescribed form, certifying that the person is an authorised person under this Act.

(2)

A person appointed under subsection (1)(a) must produce the identity card referred to in subsection (1)(b) whenever required to do so by any person in respect of whom the person has exercised, or is about to exercise, any of the powers of an authorised person under this Act.

(3)

Production of an identity card referred to in subsection (1)(b) is prima facie evidence that the person to whom the identity card relates is an authorised person for the purposes of this Act.
