Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991

Subject to these regulations, an electrical contractor’s licence may be issued under this Part to an individual if —

the individual, or a person in the employ of the individual nominated by him or her —

holds an electrical worker’s licence endorsed as an electrician’s licence; and

has engaged in carrying out electrical installing work in this State, another State, a Territory or a country other than Australia in a manner that, to the satisfaction of the Board, complies with the requirements of the Act and these regulations or with any equivalent requirements applicable in that State, Territory or country, as the case may be; and

has, to the satisfaction of the Board, completed any training that is specified by the Board and provided by a training institution approved by the Board;

the Board is satisfied, after such examination as may be required by the Board, that the individual or the person nominated by the individual for the purposes of paragraph (a) understands fully the duties and obligations imposed on electricians and electrical contractors by the Act and these regulations and any other regulations made under the Act, and by the Energy Operators (Powers) Act 1979 and the Energy Coordination Act 1994 and the respective regulations made under those Acts; and

the individual holds a current policy of insurance against civil liability, in respect of the individual’s work as an electrical contractor, that complies with the requirements specified by the Board.

An electrical contractor’s licence may be issued under this Part to a firm if —

at least one member of the firm, or a person in its employ nominated by it, meets the requirements specified in subregulation (1)(a) and (b); and

the Board is satisfied that at least one of the natural persons concerned in the management or conduct of the firm or of any body corporate by which the firm is constituted fully understands the duties and obligations referred to in subregulation (1)(b); and

the firm holds a current policy of insurance against civil liability, in respect of the firm’s work as an electrical contractor, that complies with the requirements specified by the Board.

An electrical contractor’s licence may be issued under this Part to a body corporate if —

a person in its employ nominated by it meets the requirements specified in subregulation (1)(a) and (b); and

the Board is satisfied that at least one of the natural persons concerned in the management or conduct of the body corporate understands fully the duties and obligations referred to in subregulation (1)(b); and

the body corporate holds a current policy of insurance against civil liability, in respect of the body corporate’s work as an electrical contractor, that complies with the requirements specified by the Board.
