Heavy Vehicle (Vehicle Standards) National Regulation

A television receiver or visual display unit must not be installed in a heavy vehicle so any part of the image on the screen is visible to the vehicle’s driver from the normal driving position.

However, subsection (1) does not apply to—

a television receiver or visual display unit that can not be operated when the heavy vehicle is moving; or

a driver’s aid in the heavy vehicle or, if the heavy vehicle is a bus, a destination sign in the bus.Examples for paragraph (b)—

• closed-circuit television security cameras

• dispatch systems

• navigational or intelligent highway and vehicle system equipment

• rear view screens

• ticket-issuing machines

• vehicle-monitoring devices

A television receiver, or visual display unit, and its associated equipment in a heavy vehicle must be securely mounted in a position that does not—

obscure the driver’s view of the road from the normal driving position; or

impede the movement of a person in the vehicle.
