80 Rear marking plates and conspicuity markings

(1)

This section applies to the following vehicles—

(a)

a heavy motor vehicle with a GVM of more than 12t, other than a bus fitted with hand grips or similar equipment for standing passengers to hold;

(b)

a heavy trailer with a GTM of more than 10t.

(2)

The vehicle must be fitted with—

(a)

rear marking plates in a way that complies with VSB 12, even if the vehicle was built before the day stated in VSB 12; or

(b)

conspicuity markings in a way that complies with ADR 13.Note for subsection (2)(b)—See also VSB 12 for requirements about ‘Do not overtake turning vehicle’ signs that may apply to a vehicle fitted with conspicuity markings.

(3)

Rear marking plates or conspicuity markings may be fitted to a heavy motor vehicle with a GVM not more than 12t or a heavy trailer with a GTM not more than 10t.

(4)

In this section—conspicuity marking means a conspicuity marking within the meaning of ADR 13.rear marking plate means a plate that complies with VSB 12.Examples of rear marking plates—An example of rear marking platesAn alternative pattern for rear marking platesVSB 12 means the ‘VSB 12—National Code of Practice—Rear Marking Plates’ published by the Regulator.
