3 Objects of regulations
The objects of these regulations are —
to ensure that operations relating to the injection and permanent storage of greenhouse gas substances in the State are —
carried out in a proper and workmanlike manner; and
compatible with the permanent storage of greenhouse gas substances in underground storage formations; and
conducted with appropriate measurement and monitoring; and
carried out in a way that reduces the risk of aquifer contamination, or in the case of injection operations relating to greenhouse gas substances, aquifer contamination outside the storage formation; and
carried out in a way that reduces the long‑term liability risk to the State;
and
to ensure that the Minister is informed, in a timely and consistent manner, of —
any risk or change in risk to the permanent containment of injected greenhouse gas substances; and
any loss of containment of injected greenhouse gas substances; and
any change in the predicted behaviours of injected greenhouse gas substances;
and
to provide a framework for public transparency of —
the operations relating to the injection and permanent storage of greenhouse gas substances; and
any monitoring data relating to the permanent storage of greenhouse gas substances.
