Requirement as to hives
84 Requirement as to hives
A registered entity that is a beekeeper must not keep bees in a hive other than a frame hive, being—
a hive containing only movable frames which may be separately and readily removed for examination, or
a hive containing—
fixed frames in the honey-super boxes of the hive, and
in the broodbox (being the bottom box of an active hive) of the hive, movable frames of the kind referred to in paragraph (a), and
a queen excluder which is fitted immediately above the broodbox of the hive in order to prevent the queen from gaining access to the honey-super boxes of the hive.
The registered entity must display the registered entity’s registration number on each of the entity’s hives so the registration number—
appears on a visible external vertical side of the hive, and
has a height of not less than 15mm.
If a hive of the registered entity was previously owned or used by another registered entity, all registration numbers of the previous registered entity must be struck out, permanently covered or removed from the hive so it is clear which entity currently owns or is using the hive.
