Authorised doctor must assess patient
205 Authorised doctor must assess patient
An authorised doctor must make a first assessment of the patient under this section on or before the date recorded in the patient’s health records under section 59.
Subsequent assessments of the patient under this section must be completed within 3 months after the date of the patient’s previous assessment.
Also, an authorised doctor must make an assessment of the patient under this section if the authorised doctor considers at any time that—
the treatment criteria may no longer apply to the patient; or
there may be a less restrictive way for the patient to receive treatment and care for the patient’s mental illness.
On an assessment under this section, the authorised doctor must—
assess the patient; and
discuss the assessment with the patient; and
decide and record in the patient’s health records—
whether the treatment criteria continue to apply to the patient; and
whether there is a less restrictive way for the patient to receive treatment and care for the patient’s mental illness; and
if, because of the decisions required under subparagraphs (i) and (ii), the patient’s treatment authority continues—
whether the category of the patient’s treatment authority continues to be appropriate; and
if the category is inpatient—whether the extent of any limited community treatment under the authority continues to be appropriate; and
the date of the patient’s next assessment under this section.
