Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000

A police officer must ensure a person asked to give a forensic procedure consent is given the explanation required under section 454 and a reasonable time to consider the explanation.

If, under section 451(2) or 452(5) a parent is asked to give a forensic procedure consent for a child or a person with impaired capacity and the child or person is not present when the explanation required under section 454 is given to the parent, a police officer—

must, to the extent that is reasonably practicable in the circumstances, give the child or person an explanation of the matters mentioned in section 454(1)(a) to (i); and

must tell the child or person that the child or person may object to the performance of the forensic procedure.
