548A Purposes of ch 18A
The purposes of this chapter are to allow for the following things to happen, by applying the Road Use Management Act, section 80 to the extent provided for in this chapter—
the taking of specimens of breath, saliva, blood and urine from persons suspected of committing a relevant assault offence;
the testing of the specimens;
the production of certificates for use as evidence in proceedings for relevant assault offences.
Note—The Criminal Code, chapter 35A and the Penalties and Sentences Act 1992, part 5, division 2, subdivision 2, apply to the sentencing of offenders convicted of relevant assault offences committed in a public place while the offender was adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
